Robert Strange was a United States senator from North Carolina from 1836 to 1840. The collection is a letter, 27 January 1832, from Jesse Speight (1795-1847), United States representative from North Carolina, to Strange, describing the political alignments in Washington, D.C., the day after the Senate defeated Van Buren's nomination as minister to England; and a document mentioning Strange and some of his legal colleagues.
